I am a man ..... Nikon (D200), the D40 is ideal for beginners and you risk a D70 is now getting very low.
Check out www.dpreview.com for camera reviews.
The SLR Nikon and Canon are the market leader in the industry.
I am a girl, Nikon, so I think the D40 would be good. If you would be a D50 or D70 swing a good alternative.
The purpose of the kit is to begin. You can later on a goal, decide on your own style of photography.
Unless you are a "Type Nikon," I suggest Canon EOS Digital Rebel. You can choose between the XT (350D) and XTi (400D). XTi will be the last.
Here is a good overview of the XT: http://www.photo.net/equipment/canon/dig ...
Not able to find a photo.net for the XTi. You'll find a lot on the network as such, but I have a comment that you do not give you the link to read.
Finally, if you really seriously I would like to find adequate housing Refurb seconds / the Canon EOS Digital Rebel (300D), it might be difficult to find that the suspension, but worth the price.
All the best ...
